Kayla and Kylea // Forest Park Family Portraits

Shooting Kayla and Kylea ended up being an exercise in thinking on the fly. Portland was sliding around like a headless chicken on ice trying to recover from the snowstorm that had happened earlier in the week and it turned out that the road to Hoyt Arboretum where I had planned to shoot was blocked off. After a quick discussion, we decided to head for another nearby park area in NW Portland, but that also ended up being closed. Eventually we just drove as close to Forest

Iris and Brynn // Bathtub Fine Art and Natural Light Boudoir Session

I've wanted to do a bathtub fine art shoot for a while, so when my friend Iris expressed an interest in helping me out, I was ecstatic. We spent a few weeks hammering out the details and finally decided on the right mix of bath bombs from Lush (sorry, the combination remains a trade secret) as well as which flowers we were going to use. For the second part of the shoot - a more traditional boudoir series in front of a big open window - we made a last-minute decision to also

Aimee and Shawn // Hoyt Arboretum Family Portraits

I met Aimee and Shawn on a frigid day in Hoyt Arboretum for a family portrait session with their children: Mira the infant (nickname: McGoo) and Denali the most photogenic husky that ever was (nickname: Deezer). My girlfriend - who was acting as my assistant for the day - and I were so overwhelmed by how perfect and adorable this family was together. Even though it was pretty cold, it was an absolute treat taking photos with them and hanging out for an hour in the park. #Po

Jen and Kevin // Granite Reef Recreation Area Family Portraits

It's been just over six months since I announced the winners of my Facebook Likes contest and I finally got around to doing the second of the five free shoots I gave out to the winners. Jen and Kevin are high school friends of my girlfriend and so it was a lot of fun to hang out with them and take some family photos for them in Mesa, AZ as I was passing through on a road trip. I met them and their amazing pug, Bongo, at the beautiful Granite Reef Recreation Area on the bank

Adriana and Kaylie // Fish Lake Creative Portraits

The gang and I went on an incredibly fun camping trip to Fish Lake in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest for about 6 days and it was a great excuse to photograph the friends. I convinced Adriana to wade into the frigid lake water and Kaylie agreed to climb atop a mass of wood, the structural soundness of which was questionable. Anyway, they're good sports. #Forest #Portraits #Lake #Ethereal #Summer #Sunset #Misty

Deer Skull // Sauvie Island Creative Portraits

After months of planning and location scouting, the deer skull photo shoot finally happened. My model and I spent about 6 months planning this shoot and waiting for the weather to turn in our favor. We ended up choosing a spot on the bank of Sturgeon Lake on Sauvie Island and driving out around sunset. We rented the deer skull from an interesting and somewhat strangely smelling shop called Artistic Taxidermy, which gave me a good deal on the rental price. Overall, this sh

Jose and Sally // HWY 26 Creative Portraits

My friend Jose who I sing with in choir was one of five people randomly chosen for a free shoot in my 500 Likes contest on Facebook and so we spent a couple fun months designing it. We settled on sort of an overly-artsy, super bizarre, cherry pie-themed, styled sort of sexy boudoir faux engagement out in a couple secluded wooded locations off of HWY 26. The first spot, where the styled table setting portion of the shoot took place, was in the woods outside the Rice Northwes

Wind Symphony // Lewis & Clark College Promotional Photography

My good friend and former study abroad trip director, Brett Paschal, asked me to take some photos of the ensemble he directs - Lewis & Clark's Wind Symphony. The students were all dressed in their performance attire and I had a lot of fun weaving between them while they played and trying to be as creative as possible with my angles. #Performance #Music #Promotional #LewisClark #College #Portraits

Rita and Ellis // Forest Park Engagement

I had the pleasure of singing with Rita for several years in college and so I was absolutely thrilled when she asked me to take engagement photos for her and her new fiancé, Ellis. Although it took us a number of months to find a time that we could both make work, we finally managed to nail down a date and had a really delightful morning walking along the Lower Macleay Trail in Forest Park. #ForestPark #Summer #Engagement #Portraits

Claire and Adriana // Upper Salmonberry River Creative Portraits

So I found this hike on this website that isn't really a real trail and the question of whether or not it's open to the public is up for debate, but we went there anyway and it was amazing. To go into a little more detail, Claire, Adriana, Amaya, and I all drove out on HWY 26 and followed these sort of sketchy mile-by-mile directions on the aforementioned website until we found some train tracks, which we followed for a few miles to a bridge straight out of Stand By Me - it

Senior Thesis Festival 2016 // Lewis & Clark College Theatre Department Performance Portraits

I was asked to shoot some promotional images for the Lewis & Clark Theatre Department's 2016 Senior Thesis Festival (April 19-22), a creative culmination of the Majors’ work in the department. We shot in the Fir Acres Theatre Black Box and it was a lot of fun (and pretty silly) - the students, many of whom are friends, dressed up and brought some really creative and hilarious props related to their shows or presentations. I can't wait to see them in action! #Portraits #Thea

Mason and Maia // Forest Park Faux Engagement

What do you do when you've never done much engagement photography, but want to build your portfolio? Wrangle a couple of your most platonically-in-love friends and make them kiss on a log while doing a dip! Seriously, this shoot in Forest Park on the trail to the Witch's Castle was so much fun and Mason and Maia are so cute and have have such good chemistry together despite them both being in committed relationships with other people. Anyway, thanks for humoring me - you t

For those who don't know, in addition to taking photos, I also spend quite a lot of my time interning with the Oregon Innocence Project and its parent nonprofit, the Oregon Justice Resource Center. The images I took were to help launch their new online store, which you can check out here! #TShirts #Apparel #Commercial #Brick #Portraits #SocialJustice

Trevor and Friends // Love and Information Creative Portraits

As soon as I saw Lewis & Clark College's Spring Main Stage production of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill, I knew I wanted to shoot on the set, designed by my pal Trevor. His design was a series of minimalist, bright white, diorama-like light boxes arranged in a circle around the audience. My photos don't capture it perfectly since I had to bring my own lights, being unable to use the theatre's lights, but I think the brilliance and beauty of the design still comes a

    Looking Back // 2015 Headshots

I think I'm definitely starting to come into my own style as far as headshots go - they certainly became a much bigger thing for me this year. I know I don't charge quite as much as some other headshot photographers, but having my work be accessible and affordable is important to me. After all, even though the actors and musicians who need these aren't always able to pay top dollar, they should still be able to get nice shots. #Headshots #Portraits #Music #Theatre

Looking Back // 2015 Creative Portraits

Another year gone, another collection of mixed portrait work (creative, boudoir, romantic, performance, family, etc.) that didn't merit their own posts, but are still worth sharing. This year has been full of wonderful firsts, and I can't wait to see where business goes next now that I'm graduated and photographing full-time. #Portraits #Boudoir #Romance #Performance #Beach

Erin // Orange Grove Boudoir Session

I had to wait two months to post these photos! Erin and I secretly did this shoot back when I visited Arizona in October as a fun gift for her boyfriend, but now that their anniversary has passed, I can finally do a post about them! We met early morning in some orange groves that had personal significance to her and her boyfriend for an orange-themed boudoir shoot (she even knit herself an orange bra - it was almost too cute). The groves were beautiful, but very muddy (I s

Lawyering Program // Lewis & Clark Law School Promotional Portraits

Lewis & Clark Law School's Lawyering Program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and in honor of that, they opted for a name change (from the Legal Writing Department), some portraits, and new promotional photos for the website! I love shooting things for the law school because it gives me an excuse to chat with law faculty about applying (which I'll be doing soon)! #LewisClark #LawSchool #Promotional #Commercial #Portraits

Hannah // Tryon Creek Creative Portraits

I met Hannah in the early morning for an ethereal forest-fairy-themed creative portrait shoot. Thanks to permission from the good people at the Arnold Creek Neighborhood Association, we were able to go down to an area of the creek that members of the public aren't normally allowed to access. It was a lot of fun, and we got there just at the right time to capture the beautiful morning light streaming through the trees. After we exhausted our options down at the edge of the

PUBLIC Bikes // Powell Butte Nature Park Commercial Photography

I borrowed a bike from the Public Bikes store on NW 23rd and drove out to Powell Butte Nature Park with my model, Eva, and some "assistants" (her friends). The shoot ended up falling somewhere in between a commercial shoot and a creative portrait session; part of the arrangement I struck up with the store was that in exchange for letting me use one of their bikes for free, I would provide them with some commercial shots for their social media and website - I hope to see them
