As a student, I was almost always too busy for the plethora of symposiums, extra curricular presentations, and guest speakers that Lewis & Clark would offer throughout the year. So when I was offered the chance to shoot and hear one of the keynote presentations of this year's Gender Studies Symposium (Game On: Gender and Sexuality in Play), I was pretty excited. Lisa Nakamura's presentation entitled "Gaming’s Cruel Optimism: Racism, Sexism, and the Problem with Meritocratic Media" analyzed social justice strategies for addressing racism and sexism within gaming culture - it was amazing and as I gamer myself I found the points she made to be extremely insightful.
