An Evening with W. Kamau Bell // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
For those who haven't heard of him, W. Kamau Bell is a critically acclaimed socio-political comedian based in Berkeley. He currently hosts the CNN show, United Shades of America as well as several amazing podcasts, but is perhaps best known for his FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. Kamau was invited to speak at Lewis & Clark on the evening before the presidential election on issues of race and the state of the world (among other things). It was incredibl

Homecoming 2016 // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
Homecoming weekend this year was probably the most photogenic I've ever seen the Lewis & Clark campus. The weather was consistently perfect - slightly overcast with warm sun that lit up the vibrant red and gold trees that all seemed to be stuck in perfect shades of autumn - not to mention the hordes of excited alumni. Yes, it was a good time to be on campus. I photographed a total of five events - three on Friday and two on Saturday. You can see an even wider selection of

New Student Orientation 2016 // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
It's NSO again and time for the Class of 2020 to move in and become oriented! This year's move-in was a little less strange and disorienting for me than last year's now that I'm a full year out of school. I've gotten used to being on campus as a non-student and it's not a bad transition to have made. Like last year, I hung around after move-in finished to also shoot the Parent's Preview and reception - good day. #LewisClark #Campus #Event #College

Campus Details // Lewis & Clark College Commercial Photography
Every so often a college needs to update its store of stock photos of its campus. That happened recently at Lewis & Clark and I was lucky enough to be there answer their call for a photographer. I shot these photos over the course of a month, really having fun taking my time choosing days and times that would really highlight some of the campus' iconic statuary and locations. It's super cool for me to know that these photos will be in use for years to come in promotional ma

Wind Symphony // Lewis & Clark College Promotional Photography
My good friend and former study abroad trip director, Brett Paschal, asked me to take some photos of the ensemble he directs - Lewis & Clark's Wind Symphony. The students were all dressed in their performance attire and I had a lot of fun weaving between them while they played and trying to be as creative as possible with my angles. #Performance #Music #Promotional #LewisClark #College #Portraits

Carnival of Scholars 2016 // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
The Carnival of Scholars, the last event celebrating the end of the Festival of Scholars was basically a giant party - a ton of delicious unhealthy food, a bunch of games, a petting zoo, a Ferris Wheel and a few other rides and fun things. It was a great event - I really hope CAB puts it on next year as well (and asks me to shoot it, that's key). #LewisClark #College #Event #Carnival #Campus #Colorful

GLOW: A Student Union Dance // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
So this was my first time shooting a dance and it was... an experience. The music was pretty good, provided by three student DJs: Kevin Fox, Tommy Massari, and Taig Panzer, but at one point, the Black Box in the Fir Acres Theatre (where the indoor portion of the dance was happening) became so humid that I had to stop shooting because my lens fogged up so much that I couldn't see and at other times a few students who were having a little too much fun tried to grab at my camer

Senior Thesis Festival 2016 // Lewis & Clark College Theatre Department Performance Portraits
I was asked to shoot some promotional images for the Lewis & Clark Theatre Department's 2016 Senior Thesis Festival (April 19-22), a creative culmination of the Majors’ work in the department. We shot in the Fir Acres Theatre Black Box and it was a lot of fun (and pretty silly) - the students, many of whom are friends, dressed up and brought some really creative and hilarious props related to their shows or presentations. I can't wait to see them in action! #Portraits #Thea

35th Annual Gender Studies Symposium // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
As a student, I was almost always too busy for the plethora of symposiums, extra curricular presentations, and guest speakers that Lewis & Clark would offer throughout the year. So when I was offered the chance to shoot and hear one of the keynote presentations of this year's Gender Studies Symposium (Game On: Gender and Sexuality in Play), I was pretty excited. Lisa Nakamura's presentation entitled "Gaming’s Cruel Optimism: Racism, Sexism, and the Problem with Meritocratic

Intersecciones: Havana/Portland // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
Today I went to my first gallery opening! The show, Intersecciones: Havana/Portland at the Hoffman Gallery for Contemporary Art, is a showcase of six young Cuban artists who have all made work that considers the history of Portland. The project, is a conversation between two crossroads of the Americas and was really wonderful to see and take part in. #Art #Gallery #LewisClark #College #Event #Reception #HoffmanGallery

#BlackLivesMatter Protests // Lewis & Clark College Documentary Photography
For roughly the last three weeks, I've been documenting the student response to some really awful incidents that recently occurred at Lewis & Clark College which you can read about here and here. Unfortunately, these were not the first incidents of their kind in my time at Lewis & Clark (nor will they likely be the last). It seems like every year there is some type of racist bullshit that transpires at LC - it's followed by impacted students and allies coming together to tr

Lawyering Program // Lewis & Clark Law School Promotional Portraits
Lewis & Clark Law School's Lawyering Program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and in honor of that, they opted for a name change (from the Legal Writing Department), some portraits, and new promotional photos for the website! I love shooting things for the law school because it gives me an excuse to chat with law faculty about applying (which I'll be doing soon)! #LewisClark #LawSchool #Promotional #Commercial #Portraits

10th Annual Pio Fair // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
Pio Fair is basically your stereotypical club rush - free food, games, and lot's of excited people. But the thing that really sets Lewis & Clark apart from other schools is that Pio Fair also plays host to what is just a truly absurd number of Newfoundlands. Like, there were SO MANY. Anyway, with that many dogs one can't help but have fun - it was great. #LewisClark #Campus #College #Event #Dogs

New Student Orientation 2015 // Lewis & Clark Event Photography
It was pretty strange to be back on campus for NSO now that I've graduated. I felt sort of a mixture of sadness and nostalgia, but also happiness when I realized that unlike the new students moving in, I'll never have to think about E&D again. Anyway, after move-in, I hung around for most of the day to also cover the Parent's Preview and reception, which was an interesting new perspective to hear so soon after graduating myself. #LewisClark #Campus #Event #College

Juniper and Platt Dorms // Lewis & Clark Commercial Photography
I had a lot of fun doing this shoot for Conferences and Events at Lewis & Clark. They just finished remodeling Juniper Hall and dang is it nice - I wish I had been able to live in that swanky of a building when I was a student! Platt also got a bit of a touch up with new furniture and it feels nice and fresh. I hadn't had too much opportunity to do manual HDR photography before this, so it was a really great excuse to brush up on that for me and I feel like I've definitely

Fir Acres Workshop // Lewis & Clark College Event Photography
I was hired for the day to shoot some promotional images for the website of the Fir Acres Workshop in Writing and Thinking - a really cool program Lewis & Clark offers for high school students in which participants spend two weeks living on campus and participating in an intensive program of writing workshops, discussions, and other activities. #LewisClark #Campus #College #Event #Promotional #Commercial #Writing #Students

Graduation 2015 // Lewis & Clark Law School Event Photography
My first official assignment for Lewis & Clark as a freelancer - very exciting stuff. As an aspiring law student, it was a lot of fun for me to see these students graduate in their regal purple robes - it's crazy to think that I'll get to do that in a few years! Congrats to the Lewis & Clark Law Class of 2015! #LewisClark #Campus #Graduation #Event #LawSchool

Class of 2015 // L&C Graduation Portraits
I graduated today! Holy shit! Over the last few months I've had an awesome time taking senior portraits for a bunch of other Class of 2015 friends. One of my favorite things about Lewis & Clark has been it's one-of-a-kind beautiful campus in the woods. It's a great spot for photography and I had a awesome time trying to find the best spots for portraits among the trees and stone. It's been a wild ride, Lewis & Clark - thanks for all the good times. #Graduation #SeniorPor

Amaya and Tyne // Exit the King Boudoir Session
I met with Amaya and Tyne to do some boudoir creative portrait sessions on the set of Lewis & Clark's Spring Main Stage: Exit the King by Eugène Ionesco. I was so excited to be given permission to shoot on this cool chessboard-themed set designed by Michael Olich. We went for a glam look amid the gold and silver giant chess pieces and I was super pleased with how it turned out. #Boudoir #LewisClark #Theatre #Portraits
